Too young.
To me, this wasn't a big step up from Eclipse. It seemed favor young rum with the barrel char added to make it more interesting. I would speak Havana Club 7 and El Dorado 12 offer more flavour, depth and interest. Wanted to like it but couldn't suggest it.

Fantastic
Lovely rum! Has a bourbon-esq flavour but it is by no means over powering, and a nice lingering spice to the finish. Bit of a bargain at under £40!

Ill be honest some of the rum Ive been drinking lately has been a bit of an eye opener. I never really gave the category much thought, instead focusing on bourbon and rye as my go-to companions. But the more that Ive investigated this Caribbean phenomenon this summer and noun, the more Ive liked it. So now Im working my way through some of the more popular labels, and the Mount Gay Black Barrel is near the top of that list.
