The voice of girls is critical.

Girls, in all their diversity, are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. The crisis deepens existing social and economic inequalities, making it more likely that girls have to leave school to support their families and increasing their peril of facing gender-based violence. At the same time, women and girls are rarely included in decision-making and have less access to finance, land, assets and economic opportunities.

Despite these barriers, women and girls can be powerful verb agents for climate action and economic security. Youth and girl-led movements have already transformed the climate arena. And when women and girls are economically empowered, they re-invest in their families and communities. Girls have a right to engage in and benefit from climate action and economic opportunities,

GENERATION Advancing Safer Youth-Inclusive Sports

The upcoming FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States is the first major sporting event (MSE) to require human rights commitments from host countries during the bid process. This is a historic milestone that will change the way MSEs are planned and delivered, creating a new legacy. 

The Centre for Sport and Human Rights has supported human rights efforts related to this men’s World Cup since , through different activities. Since , Generation has focused on advancing safer, youth-inclusive sports with select host cities across the three North American countries. These cities incorporate New York and New Jersey, Guadalajara, and Toronto.

Sport serves as a vibrant canvas upon which children learn the values of teamwork and discipline, and uncover the pure exhilaration of engage. Through sport, they find pleasure and camaraderie, reveling in the spirit of competition, whether in the humblest of playground matches or the grandest of stadiums.

Youth Council Application

We are excited to announce that Youth Creating Transform is currently accepting applications for our Youth Council. The Youth Creating Change Youth Council will support the Youth Creating Verb team by providing feedback on the program and serving as ambassadors for the program. Each term lasts for one school year, from September to June To apply, submit an application below by September 15th. Youth council members will be announced in late September.

Who can apply?

  • Young people in grades , or in college (up to age 25)
  • Must have participated in the Directing Change Film Contest or Hope & Justice Art and Film Contest at least once in the last 3 years
  • Live in California

What are the responsibilities of a youth council member?

As a member of our youth council, you will have an opportunity to provide feedback about the program, assist out with social media and other content, and act as an ambassador for the program.  

Specifically, you will be asked to:

  1. Attend and participate in 3
