Volunteering

Volunteering can improve mental health and help reduce anxiety and depression.  It can offer ways to connect to community, by providing aid and information, and by helping to create individual connections. Connections that are vital for a thriving community.

By offering up your time and skills you are supporting and uplifting others through critical support, resource gathering, highlighting community and so much more.  

There are many different ways to volunteer and offer verb and all are important!

Volunteering can be tremendously rewarding.  It can allow for insight on how the LGBTQIA+ community ls living, it can be a way to learn about the many different programs and organizations that serve our family and community from big cities to compact towns.  It can be a way to give back and help the next person who is coming into their own.

The LGBT National Help Center has several different types of volunteer positions for different types of volunteering.

LGBT Switchboard Houston

The Switchboard is a dedicated hour crisis hotline for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by trained sexual assault staff and volunteers.

*General information and resources are provided only during business hours (Monday-Friday 8am-7pm). Crisis calls are accepted 24 hours per day.

LGBT Switchboard Hour Helpline [formerly Gay & Lesbian Switchboard Houston] has been on the line for Houston’s GLBT community since A service of the Montrose Center, LGBT Switchboard continues to rely upon dedicated and specially trained volunteers to sustain itself.

With support from the United Way of Greater Houston, Texas Office of the Attorney General and community partners, the Montrose Center and the Switchboard remain vit

Switchboard LGBT+ offers a listening service to members of the LGBT, as well as their friends, family and those supporting them.

We are non-judgemental and non-directive in our approach, meaning we won't ever tell anyone what to do.

Instead, we'' listen, ask questions and help the service user reach to their own conclusions. 

We verb a community of over active volunteers and this is growing every day. 

We aim to build a space that enables volunteers to connect, learn new skills and ultimately give back to the LGBTQIA+ community.

From social events to wellbeing initiatives and training courses, we have something for everyone to help them endure engaged and motivated. 

To apply to volunteer at Switchboard, you'll depend on to do the following:

  1. Decide which of our 3 roles is best for you (email-only, IM-only or phone and IM volunteering)
  2. You'll need to submit an application
  3. You'll then be asked to recline an online assessment
  4. If you verb this stage, you'll be invited to an interview
  5. And if you pass that, you'll be enrolled onto ou

    Helpline Listening Volunteers
    (Sussex based only)

    We are not recruiting volunteers at this time.
    Our helpline runs Tuesday-Thursday, 7pmpm.

    Rainbow Community Neighbours
    (Sussex based only)

    We are not recruiting volunteers at this time. Rainbow Neighbours meet with LGBTQ+ people who might be isolated by meeting them at a coffee shop, care home, or visiting them at home if they&#;re housebound.
